Charbel: negotiations with Turkish officials were held away from the media

Interior Minister Marwan Charbel stressed on Thursday that the negotiations between Lebanon and Turkish officials regarding the case of the Lebanese hostages in Syria were held away from the media, noting that the Lebanese government did not neglect the case and will not abandon the hostages, “because they are our responsibility”.

“We have hope in releasing the hostages and we will inform you in case we reach a dead-end. We decided to maintain silence over the case in order to avoid media speculations”, Charbel said during a meeting with the hostages’ relatives.

The Minister added that the Lebanese President Michel Sleiman and PM Najib Mikati did not quit the negotiations concerning the release of the kidnapped, noting that he is optimistic over the contacts held and that the government will not spare any effort in this case.
