The US dollar exchange rate at money changing shops reached 2,000 Lebanese Pounds, due to the increase in demand and decrease in supply.
The demand for US dollar comes from personal and commercial needs.
Political measures related to the formation of a new cabinet that gives confidence, can alleviate this rush and high demand for the US currency.
Sources following up on the financial situation told LBCI that liquidity in US dollars is available, but the banks have been imposing ceilings on withdrawal fearing that the depositors will resort to storing their money at their houses. The banks also seek to prevent the transfer of dollars abroad amid a lack of transfers of dollars into Lebanon.
