Canada opposes Israeli death penalty law for Palestinians

Canada said on Tuesday it strongly opposes the Israeli parliament’s approval of a law that would make execution by hanging an automatic sentence for Palestinians convicted in military courts of carrying out attacks that resulted in deaths.

Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand said in a statement: “This discriminatory law adds to a growing list of measures that encourage illegal settler violence and dehumanize the Palestinian people. Canada strongly opposes its implementation.”
