Pompeo to Annahar daily: Lebanon poses as a major challenge in the Middle East region

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo stressed on Friday that “Lebanon poses a major challenge in the Middle East region.”

Pompeo’s comments were made to Annahar daily during a remote round table whereby he said that “it is not normal for an organization accused of terrorism to exert influence in the government that negatively affects the Lebanese people."

“The extent of response to the people’s demands that the government shows will make us take seriously and with great urgency the financial challenges facing Lebanon today,” Pompeo stressed.

“We will not only provide assistance, but rather we will deploy our utmost efforts so the countries in the region, as well as European countries which we are in continuous consultation with do the same,” he added.
