REPORT: Colonel Amid Hamoud breaks the silence and speaks to LBCI

The Lebanese Army's retired Colonel Amid Hamoud finally peered through the media, after being linked to many security cases, starting with Tripoli, to Tareeq al-Jdideh incidents, arming Future Movement's supporters and forming what was called the "Future's Battalions".

In the May 7 incidents, the position taken by the Lebanese Army provoked Amid Hamoud, who "turned his back and left", keeping in touch with his colleagues, by attending meetings held by security officials in Tripoli and continuously coordinating  with officers and the office of the LAF Chief.

The retired colonel said that he took the decision to retire and leave the army because he "felt sad for the army in 2008 when they failed to protect the citizens from Hezbollah's militias in Beirut," he said. He noted that there is "a special relationship" between him and the LAF leadership.

In an interview with LBCI, Hamoud said that he did not effectively join the Future Movement, pointing that he is just a supporter of the movement. Hamoud added that after he left the army he became closer to the Future bloc and its leaders.

On the other hand, Amid Hamoud revealed that the armed cadres in the Future were formed in 2008, in response to Hezbollah's practices, stressing that "armed supporters of the Future Movement do not exist."

When asked about the case of "Lutfallah 2" ship, in which reports said that he was involved, Hamoud refused to comment, explaining that he completely trusts the investigations conducted by the LAF Intelligence branch.

Commenting on his role in arming the Future Movement's supporters, Hamoud smiled and said: "Future's supporters? What does that even mean? There are no Future Battalions."
