Syrian writer Daher Attieh gets arrested as opposition fighters attack Taftanaz airport

Syrian security forces arrested Syrian writer Daher Attieh in Damascus on Saturday, his friends told AFP.

Earlier on Saturday, opposition fighters took control of 3 locations for the regime troops in the city of Douma in Damascus Reef, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. Meanwhile, activists reported that opposition fighters also took over the air defense battalion northwest of the country.
In the early morning hours, opposition fighters launched attacks on Taftanaz airport in Idlib.

The Observatory reported that violent clashes were taking place around Taftanaz Military airport as opposition fighters were trying to break into the airport.

On the other hand, SANA reported that armed troops killed a large number of terrorists who tried to attack Taftanaz airport in Idlib, and destroyed their cars equipped with machine guns.

Meanwhile, the General Authority of the Syrian Revolution announced in a statement the beginning of the liberation of the Tartanaz military airport; the Authority published videos showing a rocket launcher in action, the sound of explosions, columns of white smoke and opposition fighters.

Separately, over 25 Syrian opposition figures stressed that the regime of President Bashar Assad must go away as a pre-condition to any dialogue aimed at finding a non-military solution to the Syrian crisis, according to a statement issued by the office of Syria’s defected Prime Minister Riyad Hijab on Friday evening.

The statement added that Hijab attended a consultative meeting held with opposition figures in Amman on Thursday, in a bid to unify the efforts of the Syrian opposition.
