Mikati: development of Lebanese-Bulgarian ties necessary

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati said on Monday that he was looking forward to strengthening Lebanese - Bulgarian bilateral ties.

Tweeting from Bulgaria, Mikati said that he was able to "feel the respect of the Bulgarian officials and people towards the Lebanese."

Mikati pointed out that he discussed the importance of conducting a direct air route between Beirut and Sofia to facilitate movements and strengthen bilateral relations.

Later on, Mikati said that he explained to his Bulgarian counterpart Boyko Borisov the self-distancing policy Lebanon is following. For his part, Borisov expressed his support to this policy and to Lebanon's security and stability.

"Bilateral relations have been good throughout time, developing these ties at the touristic, industrial, and agricultural levels are needed to develop these ties," he added.

"We must develop the commercial movements and I suggest activating previously signed agreements to ensure both countries interests," he concluded.
