Erekat: we will not back down from raising the status of Palestine at the UN

Palestinian Chief Negotiator Saeb Erekat said that the Palestinians will not back down from presenting the draft resolution pertaining to raising Palestine’s status to a non-member state at the UN.

Following a meeting held between Palestinian Authority Leader Mahmoud Abbas and Secretary General of the Arab League Nabil Araby in Amman, Erekat said that “they would not succumb to pressure and will push through with the draft.”

“We do not wish to clash or isolate neither America nor Israel, but are hoping to draw the world’s attention towards illegal Israeli settlements all the while stressing on the concept of two nations based on the 1967 borders.”

Erekat pointed that Abbas had agreed with Araby on a number of issues pertaining to legal and diplomatic proceedings regarding this matter.
