President Aoun meets delegation of Foreign Affairs Committee of the French National Assembly
President Michel Aoun held a meeting on Thursday with Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly of France Jean-Louis Bourlanges in the presence of French Ambassador to Lebanon Anne Grillo, whereby he confirmed that “he looks forward to holding parliamentary elections next spring,” saying that it is a real opportunity for the Lebanese people.

During the meeting, Aoun highlighted that many things have brought the country to the current difficult conditions, in addition to external factors such as the war in Syria and COVID-19 pandemic as well as other factors.

President Aoun also told the French delegation that he “is determined, during the remainder of his term, to initiate the necessary reforms and complete the forensic audit,” noting that the government will begin next week to study the draft budget, and then the financial and economic recovery plan in accordance with the start of the International Monetary Fund negotiations.

For his part, Bourlanges confirmed that “Lebanon is always present in the hearts and minds of the French, as they express sincere desires to help it overcome the economic, political and social difficulties it is going through.”

He then pointed out that the delegation's visit to Beirut aims to to see the reality of the Lebanese situation, and to know how France can help in achieving what the Lebanese wish for, in order to preserve what distinguishes Lebanon, especially the unity between its communities.

“The reforms that the Lebanese government intends to adopt constitute an important step towards achieving recovery,” Bourlanges stated.
