Maronite Bishops: "consensual security" negatively affects State’s authority

The Maronite Bishops stressed the need to separate the political crisis from the work of the constitutional institutions, mainly the Parliament, “because Lebanon is currently facing issues that need legislation especially the electoral law.”                

Following their monthly meeting at Bkerke, the Maronite Bishops issued a statement whereby they expressed their concern over failing to reach an agreement over a new electoral law; calling on the formation of a new cabinet to supervise the elections that must be held according to a new electoral law reached through discussions conducted in Parliament.               

The bishops stressed that the new electoral law should allow the Lebanese citizens to elect their representatives, urging the political authorities to take immediate rescue measures in order to end corruption and to preserve fiscal stability.        

On the other hand, the Maronite bishops said that the Tripoli events and assassination threats prove that the state has lost its authority; pointing that "consensual security" negatively affects the authority of the state.
