A cabinet session was held on Wednesday at the Grand Serail under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Najib Mikati and in the presence of ministers to discuss a 50-item agenda. Prime Minister Najib Mikati said on Wednesday that the government has marked several accomplishments in all fields proving its credibility in dealing with critical issues and earning the respect of both Arabs and foreigners. Mikati held those who were in power for years directly responsible for the "accumulated issues facing the country, and violations which the current government is striving to resolve." Mikati pointed out that despite negative campaigns, the government will remain committed to the self-distancing policy adopted towards events in Syria. He expressed wonder at the elaborate trespasses being committed against the government and his person “as though he were a novelty to Lebanese political scene.” “The government has practically proven wrong all those who threw accusations at it,” he said. Mikati also provided details regarding the meeting of donor states held to address the refugees' crisis, and explained in detail the plan set by the government in this regard. “I am waiting for the results of the Geneva conference,” he said.
After the session, Minister of Information Walid Daouk said it was agreed upon to hold a special session to discuss the refugees' crisis and take appropriate measures in this regard.
Minister Daouk announced that tender biddings have been reopened for the reactivation of the Deir Ammar power plant in accordance to preconditions set forth by the Minister of Energy Gibran Bassil.
Daouk pointed out that Premiere Najib Mikati called for a cabinet session on Thursday the 27th of January at the Baabda Palace to hold further discussions.
