Bassil: The issue of the Zouk power plant is sealed with gvt approval

Minister of Energy and Water Gibran Bassil stressed that the cabinet decision to re-hold the tender bidding for the reactivation of the Zouk power plant aims at "eliminating any suspicions.” Bassil called on all companies to participate in the new tender.

In a press conference, he said that the Zouk issue is over and has been approved by the government.

Bassil considered that the company that won the tender of the Zouk power plant the first time is considered a “temporary winner”, adding that it won although it charged a price slightly higher that the second company.

Bassil concluded by saying that based on the price quoted by the "winning" company, the Ministry would still have saved an estimated $ USD 502 Mln from the budget set aside for the implementation of the project.
