Qortbawi from Roumieh: a draft law to establish 2 prisons ratified

Head of the Episcopal Commission “Justice and peace” Bishop Samir Mazloum chaired on Wednesday a Christmas mass in the prison of Roumieh.

After reading excerpts from the Holy bible, Bishop Mazloum announced that Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Bechara Boutros Rai is seeking to improve the conditions of the prisons which he described as inhumane and undignified.

The mass was attended by Minister of Justice Shakib Qortbawi and MP Ibrahim Kanaan.

After the mass, Minister Qortbawi made a declaration whereby he said that the parliament approved a draft law presented by MP Michel Aoun in order to establish 2 prisons; one in the North and the other South of the country.

Qortbawi added that the cabinet appointed a committee for this purpose and mentioned that the principle of rehabilitating the Roumieh prison was ratified.
