Charbel: Ministry’s preparations for elections now ready

The Interior and Municipalities Minister Marwan Charbel stressed on Friday that the Lebanese expatriates will be able to vote in case the proposed new electoral law is approved, noting that coordination is underway with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants is awaiting the voters’ lists expected to arrive from abroad.

In an interview with Voice of Lebanon radio station, Charbel said that “the Parliament must discuss the electoral draft law, then approve or amend it,” hoping that the parliamentary subcommittee which is expected to convene during the first week of 2013, will find a solution for the electoral law.

On the other hand, Charbel pointed that the ministry’s preparations for the elections are now ready, including the administrative and logistic requirements, as well as the list of the names of the Electoral Supervisory Commission’s members which will be referred to the cabinet to be issued in an official decree.
