Civil Campaign for Electoral Reform voices its fear of ‘folkloric meetings’

The Civil Campaign for Electoral Reform (CCER) held a press conference Tuesday to discuss the meeting it held, whereby it voiced its fear that the meeting of the sub-committee charged with discussing the electoral law be “folkloric and that it does not lead to any reform-related result.”

The campaign urged the committee to discuss the electoral reforms "which are no less important than electoral districts"; it called on the committee to discuss the adoption of an official ballot paper, the women’s quota and the reduction of the voting age.

The campaign considered that that the Orthodox Gathering’s electoral law enshrines sectarianism and is in contradiction with the Lebanese constitution. It called for the involvement of the civil society in the ongoing debate.
