REPORT: Discretion overshadows discussions of nationality draft law

A suspicious discretion prevailed over the work of the ministerial committee in charge of following up on the nationality draft law, as the cabinet rejected granting the Lebanese women married to foreign men the right to give their families the Lebanese nationality.

The reasons behind this rejection are many, from the high national interest, to the demographic balance, passing through the constitution and the Taef Accord as well as dozens of pretexts which the Lebanese government has been drafting for years to prevent the Lebanese woman from her simplest right.

In this context, everyone gets so embarrassed to expose such matter to the media, while Social Affairs Minister Wael Abou Faour, who is a member of the committee, was shocked as much as the Lebanese women were disappointed. The Minister told LBCI that he did not call for a session to discuss this matter, although he is a member of the committee.
