Siniora: We will suggest an electoral law which guarantees coexistence

The electoral majority system is still functional, head of the Future bloc Fouad Siniora stated during his press conference in Hlaliyyeh on Sunday.

In response to Hezbollah Chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, Siniora rejected both the Orthodox Gathering and the proportional representation draft laws and proposed instead an entirely comprehensive electoral blueprint "bound to alleviate the Christians’ fears for fair parity and representation." His electoral proposal would arguably “guarantee peaceful coexistence and moderation between Lebanese religious sects”, as he said.

Siniora favored holding elections on time, based on common denominators. "Such a major consensus would ease fears and avert risks of sliding into the pitfall of constitutional amendments let alone hind thoughts to reconsider the Taif Agreement," he said.
