Secondary contract teachers to boycott parliamentary elections

A number of contract teachers from public secondary schools staged on Saturday a sit-in outside the Ministry of Education, calling on the government to call off the open examinations set to be held in order to fill vacant teacher posts in public secondary schools.              

The head of the Central Committee of Contract Teachers at Public Secondary School Hamza Mansour revealed that the contract teachers are getting ready to boycott and fight against the parliamentary elections, urging all classes of people affected by the inaction, neglect and failure of officials, to vote only for national candidates.            

In a statement read on behalf of the protesters, Mansour noted that the Ministry's rush in holding the open examinations proves the officials' electoral intentions, not their keenness on proper education.                   

In this context, Mansour accused the government of depriving the contract teachers form their lawful right of being granted full-time employment, threatening that they will declare an open-ended strike.
