UCC general strike enters third day

Three days into the general strike, the Union Coordination Committee (UCC) cut off the road outside the Education Ministry in protest of the cabinet’s failure to refer the ranks and salaries scale to Parliament.

In this context, head of the private school teachers association Nehme Mahfoud addressed Finance Minister Mohammad Safadi saying: “After we gave you one year and a half to discuss the scale, you are not allowed to ask for two more weeks”.

Mahfoud stressed that the UCC calls on PM Najib Mikati to remain under the law, adding that tomorrow’s sit-in will take place outside the Agriculture Ministry.

For his part, Head of the UCC Hanna Gharib declared that the UCC formed committees to organize the strike, reiterating his call on the teachers of private and public schools to participate heavily in the protests, because the “pay scale is for everyone”.
