PM Mikati: Orthodox gathering electoral proposal cannot be adopted

Prime Minister Najib Mikati stressed on Saturday that the Orthodox gathering electoral proposal can’t be adopted since it contradicts the core of Lebanon’s coexistence.


“Everyone should ponder about the way to achieve the genuine representation for all Lebanese sects via an electoral law that does not compromise coexistence,” PM Mikati said.

In this regard, Mikati stated that the majority’s will lies in living together and added that it is not fair to deprive the majority from this right via electoral proposals such as the Orthodox proposal.

“The core of the Orthodox proposal is to eliminate utterly the national unity and to tear down spiritual families, though it aims apparently at granting the sects their rights”, he added.
