MP Ghanem: Orthodox Gathering electoral draft violates the constitution in form and content

The head of the parliamentary sub-committee MP Robert Ghanem said that the Orthodox Gathering electoral draft law "violates the constitution in form and content" mainly article 24, pointing out that the constitution ensures political justice reserving presidency for Christians.

During a press conference held at the Parliament on Monday, MP Ghanem said that the meeting of the parliamentary subcommittee proved that “Lebanon does not deserve such a result” seemingly since deputies did not agree upon an electoral law.

“The Orthodox Gathering electoral draft reconstructs the roots of isolation paving the way to civil war,” MP Ghanem warned.

MP Ghanem said that the crisis has become national, but agreeing upon an electoral draft that ensures appropriate representation is the first step toward a solution.

“Ensuring positive dissociation based on the Baabda agreement is one step forward in regards to the Lebanese situation,” MP Ghanem added.
