Azzi to LBCI: Representation of Lebanese Christian community is at stake

In an interview with LBCI's Nharkom Said, Deputy Head of the Kataeb party Sejaan Azzi stressed that the real problem of the electoral law lies within the framework of apt Christian representation in the country, adding that the elections should be held on their due time.

In this context, Azzi said that the representation of the Lebanese Christian community is at stake.

"The value of the Christians lies in the role they play, not in their numbers. However, power is a must in this equation," Azzi added.

Azzi slammed the standpoint that says that if political parties do not agree on a new electoral law, the elections will be held based on the 1960 law, calling on Speaker Nabih Berri to stay in office and to hold a session to discuss all draft laws, should the Orthodox Gathering's proposal fail to garner final approval.

In this regard, Azzi stressed that the law that reaps the majority vote should be the new law, adding that the Orthodox Gathering law and many others are based on sectarianism.
