Yemeni President rejects reconciliation with Al-Qaeda

Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh refused all efforts aiming at brokering reconciliation with al-Qaeda and voiced the need to make al-Qaeda members lay down their arms.

In this regard, the mediators stressed that Saleh rejected the truce proposal that the AQAP chief Nasser al-Wahishi had accepted.

In parallel, a suspected al-Qaeda suicide bomber struck explosives in the southern city of Loder, claiming the lives of 12 pro-government militiamen.

Yemeni forces are on a continuous hunt of al-Qaeda militants, with the assistance of U.S. drone attacks.

During the uprising that flared in 2011, the militants took advantage of the opportunity to seize Southern territories, including most of the Abyan province.
