Lebanon's Media Council calls on media institutions to tone down "war rhetoric"

Lebanon's National Audiovisual Media Council discussed on Thursday a report concerning the performance of the media during the past three days, whereby the council’s president Abdel Hadi Mahfouz revealed that the report states a growing use of war rhetoric leading to an escalation in sectarian tension.

The report also noted that resorting to live coverage "without reason" can also contribute to inciting sedition, stressing the importance of the media’s role in calming the political scene.

In a similar note, Mahfouz called on Muslim clerics to work for serving national unity by easing the tone of spiritual speeches in and outside houses of prayer.
