Flock of visitors arrive to PM-Designate Salam's home

Following the Prime Minister-Designate Tammam Salam's protocol visit to former heads of government on Monday, flocks of congratulating visitors arrived to his home in Msaitbeh, Beirut to meet with him.           

Saudi ambassador to Lebanon Ali Awad Assiri stressed that Saudi Arabia did not interfere in the designation of the Prime Minister, nor will it interfere in the cabinet's formation.         

During his meeting with PM-designate Tamam Salam where he handed him two congratulation letters from the Saudi King and Saudi Crown Prince, Assiri reiterated the Kingdom’s denial that it had prevented Lebanese nationals from entering its territories.               

For his part, caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel hoped that the Lebanese parties will agree on a new electoral law to facilitate the mission of the PM-designate, stressing the need to form a new government as soon as possible in order to restore peace, security and stability in the country.             

Following his meeting with Salam to congratulate him on his designation, Charbel stressed that “it is not too difficult to agree on a new electoral law, all it needs is some concessions and an agreement can be reached within 15 days,” he said.             

Among Salam’s visitors was UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Derek Plumbly who stressed the need to hold the parliamentary elections on time, hoping that a new cabinet will be formed soon.               

Plumbly stressed that he will coordinate with Salam’s government, noting that in case the hybrid electoral law were approved, there will be a technical need to postpone the elections.
