Qatari court sentences young Asian to 40 lashes for dropping mobile number to another foreign worker

A lower criminal court in Qatar has sentenced a young Asian Muslim to 40 lashes and fined him QR 500, on charges of drinking alcohol and passing on his mobile number on a piece of paper to his neighbor's domestic helper.

The convict, who works as a barber, was spared by the court for having passed on his phone number to the woman for being in a drunken state and was punished solely for consuming alcohol.
