MP Aoun: The Israeli attack on Syria is a declaration of war

Change and Reform Bloc Leader MP Michel Aoun said on Tuesday that "officials should have dealt with the kidnapping incident of Bishops Boulos Yazigi and John Ibrahim in a more serious manner", calling on those provoking war in Syria to bear the responsibility of its repercussions.          

Following the weekly meeting of the Bloc held in Rabieh, MP Aoun denounced the Israeli attacks on Syria and considered them as a “war declaration”.       

MP Aoun also condemned the Israeli violation of Lebanon’s airspace, adding that “officials must call on the United Nations to take serious actions in this regard”.         

“The UN should take serious measures instead of counting the violations,” MP Aoun said.             

On another note, MP Aoun reiterated his support to the stances of President Michel Sleiman on fighting corruption and asked the latter to support the establishment of a special court for financial crimes in order to prosecute officials involved in such delinquencies.         

On the rights of the Christian community in Lebanon and apt representation in the country’s upcoming parliamentary elections, Aoun said, “We were the first to demonstrate on the streets when Former Prime Minister Rafic Hariri was assassinated and we were also the first to stand by the Shiites in the South when a war was waged against them; today, we are standing by the side of the Christians whose rights have been overstepped”.
