Sleiman condemns Chiyah incident, calls on citizens to be vigilant

President Michel Sleiman condemned on Sunday the incident which struck Beirut southern suburb, adding that those who committed this crime “are terrorists and saboteurs who do not want peace and stability in Lebanon.”

In this context, Sleiman called on the security apparatuses to intensify their inquiries and investigations to reveal the perpetrators and refer them to the concerned judiciary, urging the citizens to sustain a maximum degree of vigilance, awareness and civic assistance in order to help preventing strife and security chaos.

Two rockets hit Beirut’s southern suburb on Sunday [May 26th] wounding several people, including Syrian nationals. One of the rockets landed in a car sales yard next to a busy road junction in the Chiyah neighborhood while the other hit an apartment several hundred meters away.

The rockets launchers were later found in the hills located between Bsaba and Aitat in Mount Lebanon.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility while the army launched investigations to reveal who was behind the attack.
