Mikati holds open press conference, launches new initiative

Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati presented on Wednesday an initiative which requires that President Michel Sleiman call on political parties to hold national dialogue in which they will participate without setting preconditions, and will present concessions for the benefit of Lebanon's national interest.           

During an open press conference, Mikati noted that the solutions are still treatable; stressing that the only way to reach consensus is through dialogue, rebuilding bridges, respecting the dissociation policy and forming a cabinet where all the Lebanese factions will be represented.                     

“We choose to move forward without hesitation, rather than desperation; any concession made by a political party for the benefit of the country will serve the citizens’ interests,” Mikati added.                 

On the other hand, Mikati stressed that the Lebanese Army enjoys political cover and support by all the parties, pointing out that “no one is questioning the role of Hezbollah’s weapons in defending Lebanon against Israel."
