PM Mikati confirms government's keenness to guarantee rights of depositors

Prime Minister Najib Mikati stressed on Wednesday that the government is keen on preserving the depositors’ rights, especially small depositors as per the government’s plan that was presented during the session held on the fourteenth of April 2022.

PM Mikati also added that the draft law, that aims to establish exceptional and temporary restrictions on bank transfers and cash withdrawals, and through this description, it is not related to the rights of depositors, but rather constitutes a platform required by the International Monetary Fund in order to present the desired recovery plan on its board of directors.

In this regard, PM Mikati called on "all those concerned to approach this issue objectively, away from outbursts and populism, in order to reach a fair and just solution for all."

Furthermore, PM Mikati sent a letter in this regard to the Parliament with copy of the initial plan that was presented by the government, to put notes on its content, knowing that the Prime Minister had asked the ministers in the last session to put their comments on the project before it was completed, and referred it to the Parliament to be studied and approved.
