Aboul Gheit congratulates Lebanese for holding parliamentary elections

Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit congratulated on Tuesday the Lebanese people for holding the parliamentary elections on May 15, wishing that the elections would be a positive step towards correcting the political and economic situation in the country.

He urged Lebanese to build on the election results and hasten the formation of a government capable of implementing the necessary reforms to help Lebanon emerge from its crisis and recover, particularly with regard to the completion of economic and financial agreements with the International Monetary Fund, which he believes will help to improve living conditions for Lebanese, revive the economy, and put an end to the suffering of the Lebanese people.

Aboul Gheit urged Lebanese leaders of all sects and political affiliations to act responsibly and uphold the national interest in the coming months, as the country's ability to overcome the crisis will be put to the test. He also urged the international community to stand by Lebanon and strengthen its economic steadfastness at this critical time.
