Roumieh on brink of chaos …detainees still on hunger strike
Roumieh prison was on the brink of chaos on Tuesday as inmates protested against failure to reduce prison sentences from 1 year to 9 months.

650 inmates have been on hunger strike since last Saturday and dozens of cases of fainting and fatigue were reported.

Those who fell ill were treated inside the hospital prison.

Meanwhile, the detainees’ relatives staged a demonstration in Sharawaneh Street in Baalbek, blocking the road with burning tires.

The demonstrators raised banners that demanded general amnesty, the decrease of the prison sentence and the speedy trial of 3,000 inmates; threatening to escalate their movement and to demonstrate before the parliament.
