REPORT: Gunmen roam Tripoli's streets in support of Sheikh al-Assir

Clashes erupted on Monday between the LAF and gunmen in Tripoli's Syria street, leaving two gunmen and one LAF soldier injured.

This as unknown gunmen established a checkpoint on the road linking Tripoli-Mejdlaya-Zgharta.

Meanwhile, residents cut off the international road near Palma resort in Tripoli, in solidarity with Sheikh Ahmad al-Assir.

Earlier, military sources told LBCI that the Lebanese Armed Forces received information that armed groups intend to attack military vehicles located in Tripoli’s Harba street.

In this context, the LAF leadership withdrew vehicles from Harba and relocated them to military bases in Bab al-Tebbaneh.

Armed men had opened fire in the air in Tripoli's main street near the Serail, in a show of solidarity with al-Assir.

Gunshots were also heard in Al-Beddawi, mainly in the main road which was opened after being blocked for several hours.

Positions:

MP Mohammad Kabbara reiterated his support to the Lebanese army, calling on it to deploy throughout all Lebanese territories.

For his part, head of the Association of Muslim Scholars Sheikh Salem al-Rafei said that the Lebanese state "failed in adhering to the dissociation policy."

He also called on the Lebanese state to assume its responsibility, condemning "the participation of some parties in killing women and children in Sidon."

Meanwhile, Caretaker Minister of Youth and Sports Faisal Karami, representative of Caretaker Minister of Finance Mohammad Safadi Ahmad Safadi, MPs Mohammad Kabbara and Samir el-Jisr called on Tripoli's residents to exert utmost restraint.
