Judge Hammoud wants Qanso's political immunity lifted

Acting General Prosecutor Judge Samir Hammoud called Friday for lifting the political immunity from MP Assem Qanso following statement made by him addressing President Michel Sleiman.

President Michel Sleiman tasked on Friday, 21st of June, Caretaker Minister of Justice Sahkib Qortbawi with taking appropriate measures against MP Assem Qanso, after the Baath Party official had accused him of "high treason. "

MP Qanso had said he wanted to trial President Sleiman for high treason over the memorandum submitted by the President to the United Nations on Syria's violations against the Lebanese territories.
