REPORT: UCC launches a one million signatures petition

The head of Union Coordination Committee Hanna Gharib declared on Tuesday that the petition currently under preparation is “the compass that will lead the Lebanese people towards unity,” noting that it aims at collecting one million signatures in order to call for passing the wage scale at Parliament.           

During a press conference held to launch the one million signatures petition, Gharib said the government did not accept to end the "occupation" of the marine properties, adding that doing so would save thousands of LBPs robbed through tax evasion and smuggling operations.               

Gharib called on behalf of the UCC, on all the citizens, parties, unions, associations and non-governmental organizations to support and sign the petition, expressing optimism regarding this matter.               

He added that the petition can be signed over the internet or in person at the UCC offices across the country.          

The Union Coordinating Committee alongside the private and public schools association had launched an open ended strike on February 19th, 2013 after making repeated called on Mikati to validate the new salary scale and consequently refer it to Parliament for ratification. Cabinet referred the wage scale on Thursday 21st of March, 2013.
