The Council of the European Union and the European Commission stressed Thursday in a joint declaration that the decision to add Hezbollah's military wing to the EU terror list according to the Council Common Position 2001/931/CFSP of 27 December 2001 on the application of specific measures to combat terrorism, does not hurdle dialogue with all the political parties in Lebanon.                 

The Council of the European Union and the European Commission also agreed that the EU decision does not affect the legitimate financial transfers to Lebanon nor the willingness of the EU and the member states to send humanitarian aid to the country.              

The declaration also pointed out that the EU will remain committed to Lebanon's stability, adding that the decision will be reconsidered every 6 months.                   

In this regard, the aforementioned council noted that it officially added Hezbollah's military wing to the EU list of terrorist organizations, according to what was agreed upon at the Foreign Affairs Council on the 22nd of July, noting that the assets of the listed organizations will be frozen.

In addition, the member states will remain committed to upholding the judicial cooperation in terms of relevant procedures and investigations.              

This decision brings the number of groups and organizations subject to such measures to 26 alongside 11 individuals on the list. The decision to adopt the said legal measures will take effect as of today [Thursday] and will be published on Friday in the Official Journal of the European Union.       

This as the council explained that it approved the joint declaration of the Council of the European Union and the European Commission, stressing that blacklisting the military wing of Hezbollah does not prevent the EU from holding dialogue with all the Lebanese political parties and does not affect the European assistance to Lebanon.
