Officials call for promoting the culture of peace in the Sayidat al-Jabal meeting

Former Deputy Salah Hnein said on Tuesday that Christians constitute a vital part of the Muslims’ identity and so do Muslims with respect to Christians, adding that the 2 sects should be held accountable for Lebanon’s current situation.

Following the Sayidat al-Jabal meeting, Hnein stressed that Christians heeded the call of Maronite Bishops in the year 2000 and were the first to fight the battle against dictatorial regimes.

Hnein added that Christians have since paved the way towards the 2005 revolution, igniting the first spark of the Arab Spring.

During the Sayidat al-Jabal meeting, officials considered that the historical role played by Christians is being subject to questioning by some political factions who transformed political life to a struggle of power and authority.

In this regard, officials called on Christians to unite their efforts in order to preserve Lebanon’s stability and prevent strife attempts, and suggested the establishment of a dialogue center in order to promote the culture of peace instead of that of war and violence.
