Geagea: Security Council’s way of dealing with Reef Damascus massacre is shameful

The leader of the Lebanese Forces Samir Geagea said on Thursday that the massacre in Reef Damascus that left at least 1300 civilians dead and thousands injured due to the use of chemical weapons, is “a shameful act of genocide”, adding that the way the UN Security Council handled the issue is “worse than the massacre itself,” since the council only expressed condemnation and called for launching investigations in the case.

In this context, Geagea regretted the absence of a reaction that equals the painful tragedy, pointing out that this situation violates the principle of humanitarian solidarity and ethical responsibility imposed by an international authority tasked with protecting peace and preventing wars and humanitarian disasters.

However, the LF leader praised the French position that “gives hope amid the darkness prevailing over the Security Council.”
