Sleiman calls on military and security forces to unite

Lebanese President Michel Sleiman stressed on Thursday that the General Security is keeping a watchful eye on public institutions, noting that the institution’s responsibility is as important as its role in preserving the citizens’ rights.

In a speech delivered on the 68th anniversary of Lebanon's General Security apparatus, President Sleiman reiterated that supporting and upgrading the military institutions are among the officials’ priorities, calling on the military and security forces to unite and work as one body to protect the country.

Sleiman stressed that the most dangerous issue in Syria is that each party in the conflict is convinced that assuming power is the sole solution to the crisis, noting that terrorism has become rampant as a result.

He also urged the Lebanese political leaders to deployed efforts in order to build institutions and preserve stability.

For his part, the Director General of General Security Maj. Gen. Abbas Ibrahim said that the General Security institution has become more effective than ever in tackling every event taking place in the country, stressing that it will continue its efforts in order to remain the “bridge that connects all Lebanese factions.”
