Azzi to LBCI: Russia will not stand idly by in the event of military strike on Syria

Deputy Head of the Kataeb party Sejaan Azzi noted on Sunday that it is more likely the US will carry out a military strike against Syria, and said: "unexpected scenarios that could happen prior to the intervention may lead the concerned countries to reconsider the type of military strike".

"We cannot estimate the extent of damage the US strike will cause to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and to the regime's ability to survive," Azzi said in an interview with LBCI's Nharkom Said TV Show.

In this context, Azzi pointed out that "Russia will not stand idly by in the face of such an attack," noting that "Russia will not directly participate in the war but will provide the Syrian army with enough equipment to detect the US Aviation".

Separately, Deputy Head of the Kataeb party Sejaan Azzi said "Iran will not respond to the US military intervention in Syria," recalling the July 2006 war when Israel hit Hezbollah and Iran did not intervene.

"However, Iran will strongly intervene in the aftermath of the potential strike if the Syrian regime remains in power," Azzi added.
