MP Kanaan: Those against the sealing of the Lebanese-Syrian borders are conspiring against Lebanon

Change and Reform Bloc said on Tuesday that the Syrian refugees dossier should be addresses in depth, urging all officials who are against closing the Lebanese-Syrian borders to present other practical solutions.           

Following the bloc’s weekly meeting, MP Ibrahim Kanaan said that the bloc was accused of racism on the backdrop of its position regarding the rising influx of Syrian refugees.           

“Those who consider the refugees’ dossier volatile, but refuse to support our proposal, are conspiring against Lebanon,” MP Kanaan said in reference to officials who have voiced rejection to sealing Lebanon's border crossings with Syria.                                      

On a separate issue, MP Kanaan noted that “the other party is blaming the Telecommunications Ministry for disrupting the work of the international tribunal; however, such allegations are false.”            

MP Kanaan added that the official spokesperson of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) Marten Youssef issued a statement in which he said the government was fully cooperating with the tribunal.
