Case of Aazaz hostages sees progress

The Director General of General Security Abbas Ibrahim returned Friday to Lebanon following a visit to an Arab State, within the framework of the efforts he is exerting to resolve the issue of the Lebanese hostages held in Syria’s Aazaz.

In this context, sources told LBCI that the case of the Aazaz hostages is nearing closure, adding that the abducted Syrian bishops may be included in the deal, which is expected to come to final terms on Tuesday, i.e the first day of the Eid al-Adha holiday.

Eleven Lebanese pilgrims were kidnapped on their way back from Iran by insurgents hoping to use them for a prisoner swap on the 22nd of May. Only two have so far been released.

Similarly, two Syrian bishops, identified as Greek Orthodox Metropolitan of Aleppo and Alexandria Boulos Yaziji, and Syriac Orthodox Metropolitan of Aleppo Yuhanna Ibrahim, were kidnapped by gunmen on Monday April 22nd.
