Berri derides targeting UNIFIL, national security

Speaker Nabih Berri described on Friday the termed explosion which targeted a UNIFIL patrol today as "terrorist" and said it aimed at rendering Lebanon in general and the South in particular a perturbed and irking area.

A bomb went off early this morning near a UNIFIL patrol in Naba'a area located between Housh and Burj al Shamali towns east of Tyre, causing light injuries to four peacekeeping soldiers and a Lebanese civilian. The blast is believed to be targeting the French contingent operating within the UNIFIL command.

Berri reckoned that the explosion was part of a serial targeting the "international witness" tasked to confirm [Lebanon's] full implementation of UNSC resolution 1701.

"This explosion, in all its perspectives and upshots, indeed serves Israel," a statement by the Speaker read.

Berri called herein the Lebanese Army and security institutions to multiply efforts to uncover the identity of the authors of "the organized terrorist crimes."
