Sources to LBCI: Security forces say Takfiri group behind assassination of Sheikh Ghiye

The funeral of Sheikh Saadedddine Ghiye, who was killed in Tripoli on Tuesday, was held on Wednesday noon in his hometown of Tikrit in Akkar, where prayers were held in the presence of his relatives and friends.

In this context, sources told LBCI that the security forces suggested that a Takfiri group may be behind the assassination of Sheikh Ghiye, adding that available evidence is being examined in order to unveil and arrest the suspects.

On Tuesday morning, two unidentified assailants, riding a motorcycle in the region of al-Bahsa in the northern city of Tripoli, opened fire at the Islamic Action Front (IAF) official Saadeddine Ghiye who was inside his vehicle, leaving him with a gunshot wound to the head.

Ghiye was rushed to Zgharta hospital for treatment, where he later succumbed to his wounds.
