BDL to issue new banknote on 70th anniversary of Lebanon's independence

Banque du Liban (BDL) is set to issue a new 50, 000 LBP banknote next week for the occasion of Lebanon's 70th anniversary of independence, celebrated on November 22.

The banknote's color is mainly blue, with an illustration of the Lebanese flag on the right hand corner of the front side, a display of Rashaya Castle on the left side as well as the flag's colors and a display of Lebanon's map on the right of the back side.

BDL said in a statement that the banknote is made of polymer, marking a debut in the use of the material in the manufacturing of Lebanese banknotes.

The security features include embossed patterns that give a rough feel to the note, characterized in parallel horizontal lines on the sides of the banknote.

A second feature includes another embossed seal to the left side, designed to help the blind identify the currency's value.
