REPORT: Lebanon celebrates 70th Independence Day

A military ceremony was held on Friday at Shafik Wazzan Avenue in Beirut, in the presence of senior officials from the Lebanese government, on the occasion of the 70th commemoration of Lebanon’s Independence.

Among the officials who have arrived to the avenue are President Michel Sleiman, the Lebanese Armed Fores Chief General Jean Qahwaji, Speaker Nabih Berri, caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Prime Minister-Designate Tammam Salam, and a number of deputies, ministers as well as religious, political and security

figures.

After the ceremony, the top officials headed to the Baabda Palace where they received felicitations from popular crowds, official representatives and various dignitaries for the occasion.
