VIDEO: MP Gemayel slams Hezbollah’s ongoing provocation against the Lebanese people

Coordinator Central Committee of the Kataeb Party MP Sami Gemayel explained Monday that the Kataeb students at Saint Joseph University, Huvelin Street, are subject to provocations through slogans praising Habib Chartouni written on the university’s walls.

Gemayel added that the USJ’s events are a new phase in the series of the ongoing provocations carried out by Hezbollah against the Lebanese people.

During a press conference, MP Gemayel stressed that the students did not fight inside the campus, noting that “the security forces and the university’s administration did not intervene until the situation started to worsen with dozens of students gathering outside the campus.”

“Shortly before the outbreak of a large dispute in the Achrafieh region, the Lebanese Armed Forces decided to take action,” the MP continued.

Addressing Hezbollah’s Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, Gemayel said: “You represent a large proportion of the Lebanese people, as the Kataeb party also does. Do you accept to be challenged? Then are you challenging us?”

However, the MP said that the Lebanese army saved the situation after five hours of indifference expressed by the administration, hoping that, “in the future, the army would resolve such conflicts within five minutes, while holding accountable those who incited the dispute.”

“This university is a symbol of Lebanon and civility, and we will not allow anyone to alter its identity. We urge the administration to also preserve its image,” Gemayel concluded.
