Tripoli officials, sheikhs unite and reject clashes with LAF

In this context, sources told LBCI that citizen identified as Khaled R. is one of the most wanted men involved in the incidents, noting that the army is pursuing him and seeks to arrest him “dead or alive”.    

In turn, Salafist cleric Dai al-Islam al Shahhal that Thursday’s movement was a direct response to the incident that took place with al-Jadeed crew and to the targeting of the region of Bab al-Tebbaneh.    

On another note, Arab Democratic Party Secretary General Refaat Eid told LBCI that the latest round of clashes in Tripoli was not a result of the accusations launched against the party, noting that some parties are seeking strife.  

The last and 18th round of violence in Tripoli ended with 11 killed and 113 wounded including 13 LAF soldiers.

On Wednesday, the Lebanese Army Command announced that it arrested 4 gunmen on charges of committing criminal acts and sniping on civilians and soldiers in the city.

The Lebanese Armed Forces soldiers deployed in various regions across the city, conducted patrols and installed checkpoints to check passengers' identity. They also raided neighborhoods in a bid to arrest fugitives.

The port city of Tripoli has long been a stronghold of Sunni Islamists in northern Lebanon.

But the city has become increasingly volatile in recent months due to the civil war in neighboring Syria, where the Sunni majority is leading a revolt against President Bashar al-Assad.
