Shura Council approves wage decree with conditions

The Shura Council announced on Friday the approval of the wages decree provided that the proportional raise on the pay scale be amended.

Upon reading the letter addressed by Labor Minister Charbel Nahhas in which he requested a verdict on the wage draft decree, the Shura council confirmed that the state’s intervention in this matter should not disrupt the mechanism through which the wages should be set. The council added that the mechanism lies in a unanimous negotiation provided for by article 2 of the convention of the International Labor Organization.

Cabinet approved a wage increase decree last week, hiking the minimum wage to LL600,000, salaries under LL1 million by 30% and salaries above LL1 million by 20.
