Cardinal Rai: Lebanon is not a land of war, violence and death

Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros Rai said the church refuses that any Lebanese sell their own land, noting that "the sale of land is a crime and a treason against the country's identity and history".

"Our holy land is priceless," Cardinal Rai told the Lebanese in his Christmas message, and said: "We refuse to turn it into a land of war, violence and death".

Separately, Rai called for the formation of a new government that leads to reconciliation between the rival parties and puts an end to poverty among citizens.

In this regard, he urged lawmakers to attend parliamentary sessions in order to elect a new president in due time.

Cardinal Rai also called on the concerned authorities to control illegitimate weapons and to protect the citizens and their properties, urging the Arab and International Community to release those who were kidnapped in Syria, mainly the two abducted Bishops and the Maaloula nuns.
